Episode 1: A New Frontier
Location: Captain's Ready Room
T'Prin had found her quarters, dropped her duffel, seen to the delivery of her belongings, and finally was heading up the turbolift to the bridge, the wooden case she'd been given held tightly in her hands.
She stepped off and looked around, walking slowly to admire the view. Every bridge looked unique, even on similar classes of ship. They all had a different feel to them. This one felt...powerful. It was somewhat larger than the bridge of her home ship, but she recognized most of the stations, especially the Captain's chair. Everyone knew where that was.
She made her way around to the Captain's Ready Room and rang the chime, her fingers idly tapping the box as she waited to be admitted.
With final preparations commencing. Captain Gearev sat in his ready room going over reports from the departments and Starfleet. The Tholian presence on the board had been increasing over the last few months. He wondered if one ship would be enough out there. Even one as large and powerful as the Vanguard. In the middle of a Starfleet Intelligence report, the chime rang.
Looking at his desk comp, it showed a small ID card in the lower right corner of his screen. It read “Price, T’Prin. Lieutenant Commander. Chief Medical Officer.” Finally. Starfleet found one for them. “Enter.” He said looking up at the door and it swooshed open.
T'Prin walked in, box in hand and flashed the Captain a smile. "Greetings, Captain," she said, holding her hand up in a traditional salute. "Doctor T'Prin Price, reporting in."
"Greetings Doctor. Welcome aboard." The Coridanite captain said to the CMO that stood before him. He thought Starfleet would never give him a CMO, but here she was. He didn't want to think about it, but he knew they would need her in the new future. "Please have a seat."
T'Prin sat down and crossed her ankles before leaning forward and placing the dark, wooden box on his desk. "Compliments of Captain Anderson. If I had to guess, it's a bottle of brandy from her private stock. The brandy, bottle and box are all made by hand on her home world, Rigel V. Potent stuff, but tasty. Rather fruity flavor, if I recall."
Accepting the box, he opened it up. Sure it enough it was a bottle of brandy. He pulled it out and admired the bottle. "I will be sure to send my thanks to Captain Anderson." Placing the bottle back in the box and shutting it, he moved it to the side, just enough to move it out of the way. "Welcome aboard Doctor. I was worried Starfleet would not send us a Chief Medical Officer before we left spacedock."
T'Prin's eyebrows went up, surprised. "They didn't tell you I was coming?" she said. "When I got the transfer orders, Nic--Captain Anderson decided to just bring the ship back to Earth to make sure I got here. I assumed she let Command know." She thought about it and shrugged, smiling. "Either way, here I am, just glad I made it in time."
He had been so busy with getting the ship ready, he never checked the transfer records. Nevermind though, she was here that is what mattered. "Indeed." He said. He handed a PADD, "Here is the manifest of the medical staff. You also have 12 hours to make sure you have the supplies you need."
"A whole twelve?" she said, then got a sneaky idea. "I think I know how we can light a fire under Starbase's supply sergeant. I'll see about getting in touch with them when I get to Sickbay." She glanced over the PADD. "I'll have to call a team meeting. Lot of names to put to faces." After a moment she sat back. "Any surprises I should know about? Things that the official medical records don't quite cover? Oh, and are you one of those 'you'll have to drag me in for a physical' type of captains? I'll need to know if I have to start setting clever traps," she teased, grinning.
"You do have a Jem'Hadar medical officer under you. So don't be alarmed when you enter sickbay." Yoralig said in his stoic voice. "If there is nothing wrong with me, then why get seen by a doctor." The captain said.
T'Prin gave him an understanding smile. "A common sentiment," she said. "Of course, that assumes you always know with perfect assurance the status of every part of your body. I envy someone with such detailed self-knowledge." She gave him a cheeky grin and shrugged. "But it is what it is. As for the Jem'Hadar..." she glanced at the PADD again. "I assume that's Doctor Ramat'iklan? That should be interesting. I've never met one before, let alone heard of one being a Doctor. Should be fascinating." She shrugged. "Well, unless you have any questions for me, I'll skip on down to Sickbay and make sure everything's ship shape."
Ignoring the comment about his health, Yoralig moved on, "I have yet to meet him. He came with high reccomendation though." The Coridanite said to her. He was a little unnervered about the Vulcan that showed emotion. Although he did see in her profile that she was half Human and half Vulcan. Which would explain that. "I have no other questions. Let the station know what else you need."
"Will do!" T'Prin said, happily. She stood up and gave a salute. "Pleasure meeting you, Captain," she said.
"And I you. I look forward to serving with you, Doctor." The captain said with a nod, returning the pleasantries.
T'Prin gave a nod and turned, walking briskly out of his ready room and to her new office.
